About Ljubljana

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure for me to invite you to attend the 1st South-Eastern European Pediatric Gastroenterology (SEEPEG) Meeting that will be taking place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from September 25th to 26th, 2009.

The meeting will provide an unique opportunity to expose and discuss our clinical and research knowledge with collegues from Europe who share an interest in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. The region of South-Eastern Europe has been always the "melting pot" of different nations, cultures, religions, political systems..., a place where north and south, west and east shake hands. In history, it has been an ideal place for exchange of material goods, but also knowledges and wisdom of different societies. Today, this unique region maybe more then ever calls its peoples together to colaborate on every field of life: economy, culture, art, science... Therefore, I strongly believe that you, my dear collegues, will support the idea of this new but, I hope, very perspective opportunity.

Main topics of the 1st SEEPEG meeting will be: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, Gastrointestinal allergies and Nutrition. Opinion leaders and prominent experts from the South-Eastern European region as well as from other parts of Europe will prepare lectures in the field of their expertise. Moreover, I would like to encourage you all to participate at our meeting with oral or poster presentation.

Ljubljana, a picturesque town with not more than 300.000 inhabitants, is one of the smallest capitals in Europe. From 1990 it is the capital of Slovenia, and in the first half of 2008 the president city of European Union. Ljubljana exposes an interesting mixture of Mediterranian and middle European influences resulting in colourful arhitecture with medieval castle on the hill overlooking barroccian old town and river Ljubljanica more connecting than separating its two banks. The weather in Ljubljana in the end of September is usualy nice, and I hope it will be so also during our meeting. Ljubljana with its central position brings good opportunity for excursions to all parts of Slovenia. From Ljubljana, nearly any part of our country can be reached in about two hours.

Dear friends, I am looking forward to wellcome you all in my town in September 2009.
